Grief and loss resources are plentiful online, sometimes not so easy to locate locally. Some therapists specialize in grief and loss work. Others write reference material and still others provide support networks.

Individuals have many options when it comes to grief therapy, but all are not necessarily available in all communities. It is wise to be familiar with as many as possible.

Hospital chaplains and public safety chaplains are often on the first lines when grief strikes and are generally available on a moment's notice.
School counselors are available in larger schools, and local pastors are usually available in smaller communities.
Mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, primary care physicians and psychiatric specialists such as nurse practitioners are available in some communities.
Generally these professionals have regular office hours and are not accessible for immediate support.
